Mexborough Town 4 Gainsborough Trinity Reserve 0
Mexborough Win at Home.
Mexborough Town opened their list of home engagements on Saturday with a substantial victory over Gainsborough Trinity Reserve. The game was only a scrappy character, both teams shaping very indifferently, the weakness the visitors being most noticeable in the shooting department. The second half, with Mexborough kicking downhill, saw them much superior, although they hardly deserved a four goals victory. The home forwards were quite unorganised, although they improved towards the close.
At Mexborough, before 2,000 people.
The home team played capitally, though Lowe’s penalty goal in the first three minutes was not succeeded another goal until half-way through the second half.
Then Rogers scored, and Lowe and Smith added to the lead.
