Lincoln City Reserves’ First Win.
Mexborough Town 1 Lincoln City Res 2
It was fully expected that Mexborough Town would restore the winning vein—if it ever was to start again—on Saturday, when Lincoln City Reserves were entertained.
It was nearly case of “bottom dog” struggle, and, to the surprise of the home supporters, the visitors were allowed to register their first victory in the League.
Taking everything into consideration, they fully merited their win, if for the fine defence put up in the second half. It is a fact that Mexborough did everything but score in the last half, but their tactics were of such scrambling nature, many times one player spoiled another.
Brawn, new man centre, showed plenty of dash and fed his wings beautifully, and although he did not grasp the scoring situation at the critical moment, he is certainly an improvement upon his predecessors. Taylor was another new recruit, but his roaming disposition spoiled his effectiveness. The “star”of the home side was, without doubt. Hibberd, and his many centres, which always spelt goals, never matured as they deserved.
