Mexborough to Ilkley
Police Inspector ‘s New Appointment
After six years as inspector in charge of the Mexborough Sub-Division, Inspector Horace Waugh of the West Riding Police, leaves on Monday to take charge at Ilkley, in the Otley division.
His departure will be regretted by Mexborough people with whom he has proved very popular. Inspector Waugh is to be succeeded at Mexborough by Inspector Metcalfe, of Pontefract.
Inspector Waugh served throughout the last war with the York and Lancaster regiment, winning the D.C.M. Joining the West Riding Police Force in September 1919, he was stationed at Ecclesfield, Bentley and Goole, before being transferred to Conisbrough, and promoted to Sergeant in 1929.
Promoted Inspector in 1934, he spent 3 ½ years at South Elmsall, succeeding at Mexborough in May 1938. Inspector, (now Superintendent Redfern), will be his senior officer at Ilkley.
