Mexborough Newsagent to Retire
A well-known Mexborough newsagent Miss Eva Barton (66), of 39, Wath Road, Mexborough retires on Sunday, due to health reasons.
The new owners of the shop and premises will be Mr. and Mrs. Victor Robinson. Miss Barton first started at the shop when she was 16, and after the death of her aunt Mrs. Eliza. Rutter, at the age of 72 in February, 1936, Miss Barton took over the business. Before her death Mrs. Rutter had owned the shop for 39 years.
Miss Barton has a brother, Herbert, who works on the railway at Mexborough, and two sisters Mrs. D Parks of Wath and Mrs. E. Bell of Mexborough who with her daughter, Mrs. G. Wormley, of Swinton, have run the shop during Miss. Barton’s illness for over a year.
Miss Barton will live with her sister, Mrs. Bell at 5, Frederick Street, Mexborough.
