Mexborough Girls Holiday Thought For Others
Christine Linley (12), of 22, Sycamore Road, Mexborough, and Joyce Fox (12), of Hawthorne Crescent Mexborough, have been spending their time during the school summer holidays raising money for the National Society for Mentally Handicapped Children.
The girls received a wonderful response from their friends and neighbours in the Highwoods Estate when they went collecting groceries and tinned goods. With help from their parents a competition was organised and it realised £2 10s. Most of the hard work was done by these two small girls who decided to do something worthwhile in the holidays.
This was the second effort they have organised to help a worthy cause. During the last holidays another competition they organised realised £2 6s. They also hope to raise more money in the next school holiday.
Joyce will be in her second year at Mexborough Grammar School next term. She hopes to become a teacher. Her father is a checker employed by British Railways. Christine, who is at Mexborough Schofield Technical College, plans to be a shorthand-typist. Her father is employed in the control office at Sheffield Victoria railway station.
