Mexborough G.S. Girl for Cambridge

Miss Christine Kitching, 18-years-old daughter of Mr. R. L. Kitching, former music master at Mexborough Grammar School, and Mrs. Kitching, of 40, Cemetery Road, Mexborough, has gained entrance to Girton College Cambridge University

This is the second recent success for scholars from the Grammar School at Cambridge University. Miss Gillian Woolven was last year accepted as a student at New College.

Christine, who was Head Girl at Mexborough Grammar School last year and holds the position of Head Girl Emerita this year, on Wednesday telephoned the good news to her father who is now Deputy Head of Marshallwick Boys’ School, St. Alban’s.

Miss Kitching and her mother leave Mexborough to join Mr. Kitching after Christmas She leaves the School to-day (Friday) and intends to obtain employment—probably abroad—until she takes her place at Girton next October.

She will read for a degree in English.

Last summer she gained County Major and State Scholarships in the G.C.E. (Advanced) examinations.

At school, Miss Kitching was secretary of the Scientific and Literary Society and a member of the choir
