Mexborough Collier’s Violent Behaviour

Albert William Barthorpe, collier, Mexborough was summoned for doing wilful damage to a door in the house of George Schofield at Mexborough on March 20.

Mrs Schofield wife of complainant said that on the Saturday evening in question defendant came to her house stop he was drunk and band at the door. She only defendant threatened to kill everybody in the house, using filthy language.

He then picked up a big dolly tub that had been standing outside the house and bashed the door clean in. The damage estimated at about 10 shillings, as a new door had to be put in.

Defendant said he had paid the landlord of the house for the new door and produced a receipt for such payment.

The Chairman said that as defendant had paid the amount of the damage they would ordered him to pay the costs of the case 6/–.
