Dennis Laister

Mexborough appear to have been justified in considering they have got hold of one of the most promising young bowlers in the district by the engagement of Denis Laister, the 21-year-old Denaby Main man.

Last summer Laister played with Don Mill in the Swinton alliance competition and occasionally with Barnsley Cooperative in the Darton League competition. He headed the Don Mill bowling averages.

The Denaby club gave him one or two trials in their Doncaster League team but they did not persevere with him.

He began this season by taking six cheap wickets for the Mexborough Doncaster league team and since then have been a regular member of the Yorkshire Council side.

He opened with four for 45 against Dinnington, took three for 19 a fortnight later, and last Saturday These useful performances by taking five Bentley wickets for 24 runs.

Laister is tall, bowls with a delightfully easy action, and L by side, gets a nasty nip off the pitch.

Last Saturday he bowled with a well-controlled length, direction and flight. A season of Yorkshire Council work will given experience and steady practice against good batsmen that enable the board to develop’s resources. He ought to become a first-rate bowler.
