Mexborough Athletic 1 Barnsley Reserve 1
Mexborough Athletic and Barnsley Reserves put up a good game at Mexborough last evening, and though there was not much to choose between the sides, the visitors were rather fortunate in equalising Bungay’s earlier spectacular goal in the last minutes, deservedly as was their fighting spirit rewarded by Whiteley’ dramatic success.
Mexborough were the more assertive in attack and had clever forwards in Burley, Fleetwood, and Wilson, a fine left half-back in Wassall, and a resolute defence in which Best shone in goal.
For Barnsley, Green was the conspicuous forward, Ridyard a strong half-back, and Lampard a goalkeeperof merit.
