Mexborough Assault Charge Dismissed
Arthur Cliff, miner, Mexborough was summoned by Ethel Timmins for assault at Mexborough on May 8th.
Ethel Timmins, Creswell Street, Mexborough said on May 8th, she had just come out of a neighbour’s house when the defendant came and struck her on the eye.
The defendant: Did you come to the next door neighbours a week today and strike me? – No.
Did you strike me a week last night? – No.
Laura Calladine, Creswell Street spoke to seeing the alleged assault committed.
Defendant: Did you order her out of your house because she struck me? – I was not in.
Defendant said the complainant had insulted him and struck him on several occasions. On the previous Saturday night he was in a neighbour’s house when the complainant came and called him a Rotherham bully, she also struck him on the neck. He told her he didn’t want to have anything to do with her. On the day in question he had to push her away to prevent her from striking him. He never struck her at all. She was a complete nuisance to him, and he could not speak to anyone in the street without the complainant causing a disturbance.
Henry Drakeley said on the previous Monday afternoon he was stood in Calladine’s doorway. The complainant went up to defendant, and he had to push it away. There was no assault committed.
The case was dismissed.
