Mexborough Angler wins Dearne Angling Trophy

A keen young Mexborough angler is 14-years-old Graham Hullett, of 11, Grenfell Avenue. On Saturday, July 11th he won the Dearne Community and Miners’ Welfare Scheme junior angling trophy at Bolton Brickyard Ponds.

Graham fished for three hours, most of the time in the rain, for a total catch of 15 fish, weighing 1 lb. 9 ozs, and was the only competitor from Mexborough, among 45 others from the Dearne area. He was presented with the trophy which he will hold for a year and a miniature souvenir cup which will have his name engraved on it. It was the first time that the trophy had been competed for, and was Graham’s fifth competition, and first major prize. The trophy was presented by Coun. E. Austwick, chairman of Dearne Urban Council.

Graham, a pupil of Mexborough Grammar School, is the son of a “South Yorkshire Times” employee, Mr, H. Hullett, and of Mrs. Hullett, He has been angling since he was nine years old and hardly ever misses a weekend’s fishing,
