Mexborough and the Electric Light.

Mexborough now possesses the electric light, the current being officially switched on on May 29th. For many years the illumination of the town has been the works of the Swinton and Mexborough Gas Light Company, the cost being 3s. 6d per 1,000 cubic feet.

The electric light is now used for the whole of the public lamps, and the principal tradespeople are making use of it.

The Council received authority to borrow £15,400 for electric lighting and £4,600 for a refuse destructor and necessary buildings, the two being worked together.
