“Rio Rita”
Mexborough Amateur Operatic Society’s Production
Ambitious Effort
Here are principles in “Rio Rita,” introduced by Mexborough Amateur Operatic Society all next week in the New Hippodrome, Mexborough.
They are (left to right),
Top row; Arnold Shaw (Toni), Jack Snelgrove (Edward Lovett) Emily Beach (Rita), Arthur Houlton (Roberto)
Second row; Lynette Chappell (Lolita), Margaret Shillitoe (Dolly); Ernest Boden (Chick Bean), Dorothy Smith (Katie)
Third row; William Burton (Jim), Agnes White, M.B.B.O.(solo dancer), Frank Smeaton (Capt Gonzales)
Bottom Row; Ernest Corbett (Cpl Wilkins), Tom Beach (general Esteban), Ella Lockwood (Carmen) and EB Stockdale (Sgt McGinn)
The production is again in the capable hands of Mr Jack Snelgrove, whose thoroughness has been manifested in previous shows, such as “The Desert” and “Rose Marie.” The musical director issued Mr JW Farnsworth, and under his guidance the singing equals a high standard of the last two years.
One of the outstanding features of the production is the dancing, and the society are fortunate in having as Connery Dancing Mistress, Miss Agnes White.
With such artists, and under such direction, the production should be a great success. This will be the first stage performers of “Rio Rita” in the town and it is sure to be popular.
