Mexborough Allotments
Result Of Annual Competition

Mr. H. Goodlad, (picture) of 35, Cross Gate, who came out on top two years ago in the competition organised by the Mexboro’ Urban Council for the best cultivated allotment, again heads the list of prize winners this year with an aggregate of 146 points. Mr. G. Hanks of Wood Street, comes next with 120 points, and Mr. T. L. Payne, of Kirby Street, has 115 points.
The judges, Messrs. T. Walker, of Wath, and T. Oliver, of Swinton, spent three evenings going over about 600 allotments. They commented on the good condition of the gardens generally and said they were even better cultivated than the previous year. Prize money to the value of £5 5s. will be distributed to the following allotment holders in the various sections:
Schofield Street Old: 1 G. Hanks, Wood Street, 120 points; 2 A. Stocks, 32 Wood Street, and S. Bourne. 114 Schofield Street, tied with 96 points. Schofield Street New: 1 F. Taylor, 30 York Street, 83 points; 2 J. J. Davies, 74, Main Street 72 points. Brickyard: 1 H. Bacon, 61, Schofield Street, 88 points; 2 B. Vickers, 7, Beaconsfield Street, 76 points. Cemetery Road: 1 S. Moody, 1, Genoa Street, 80 points: 2 R. Platt. 12. Lorna Road, 78 points; 3 IL Hancock, 70 Victoria Road, 76 points; 4 J. Cartwright 11, Kelvin Street, 64 points. Adwick Road (Group 1 to 40): 1 W. Brown, 52 Cross Gate, 84 points; 2 G. Addy 2, King’s Road, and W. Godfrey, Morton Toad. tied with 78 points. Group 42 to 97: 1 T. L. Payne, 64 Kirby Street, 115 points; 2 G. Hughes, Harlington Road, 95 points. Group 98 to 150: 1 F. Brooks, 9, Dolcliffe Road, 82 points; 2 H. Wallis, Harlington Road, 76 points. Chaucer Road: 1 T. Venables, 2 Chaucer Road, 88 points: 2 F. Stevenson. 4, Chaucer Road, and G. W. Jones, 10 Morton Road, tied with 84 points. Don View: 1 W. Noble, 17, Don View, 96 points; 2 R. B. Gethen, 6, Don View, 89 points. Ferry: 1 H. Goodlad, 35, Cross Gate, 146 points; 2 E. Bell, 75, Church Street, 108 points.
