This match, which always excites considerable interest in Mexborough, was a fixture on Monday.

Mexborough again won the toss, and sent in Ellis and Kemp to the trundling of Hirst and Hutchinson. Ellis contributed 16, and was then bowled by Hutchison at 26.

Smith made 10 before he lifted one into Livesey’s hands, and Kemp was given out leg before wicket, a decision he evidently did not relish. Rostrum did not stay long, but showed good form while he was in, and he was evidently dissatisfied by a decision which made him retire a Malpass carefully compiled 14, and witnessed the departure of Nicholson (0), Wilson (0) Bennett (4) and Beckett (4).

None of the remaining batsmen made much stand, and in the innings closed at 88, Crossley being not out with 3 to his credit.

Elsecar made a good start, and F & Turner made pretty free with the bowling. Ellis missed a catch in the Longfield soon after the start, and some of the strokes made by Turner were rather lucky. Nevertheless, the scores rated 20 before bumpers was dismissed by catch of the bowling of Smith. They were joined by Pinder, and this causes a great deal before the last, was dismissed with a splendid one-handed catch by Smith. Player not been in progress long after lunch and before rain came down in torrents, and spectators were forced to seek shelter.

With the resumption of hostilities, play became very exciting, and with two wickets to fall, Elsecar wanted three runs to win.

The parish of hopes and Wales produce five runs at them both wickets fell at the same total of 90, leaving Elsecar victorious by two runs. Smith took five wickets for 25 runs and Beckett four for 20.
