Mexborough’s Big Win.
Mexborough Athletic, after two successive home defeats, got back to winning ways on their own ground in their arranged match with Scarborough, beating the latter 5 —0.
Mexborough made team changes which proved effective. The introduction of Smith, a junior from Conisborough, at centre-forward, had bracing influence on the vanguard, which was more thrustful than for several weeks past. Smith was decided success, even though did not score.
Ashton (two), Shaw (two), and Kennedy were the scorers. Ashton and Shaw ware the best of an improved attack, which Ackroyd, the outside left on trial from Mexborough Thursday, was not of the same standard as Smith. Kennedy played a big game centre-half, and Davis was a reliable figure the defence.
Jukes, the ex-Mexborough centre, and Harron were the best of the Scarborough forwards.
