In redemption of their promise the Mexborough Association on Saturday turned out  their team to play a match in in aid of the Montagu Hospital.

The short notice at which the game was arranged prevented adequate advertising and the “gate” did not reach £8. But those who did attend had an enjoyable afternoon’s football without the bustle and palpitation of a Shield match. Scunthorpe were well beaten; but in the first half they gave Mexboro’ a good run and the game at least served the valuable purpose of keeping the English Shield aspirants in practice.
