Different Methods.
Mexboro’s More Successful than those of Gainsboro’
Although still short of several of their usual players, Gainsborough Trinity ought not to have dropped both points to Mexborough on Saturday. They had quite as many, if not more, chances of scoring than came Mexborough’s way, but they failed badly in front of goaL Twice Dann had only the Mexboroutrh goalkeeper to beat at short range, but muffed both chances, and just before he scored his really clever goal, a third easy chance was thrown away. Dann may play football a long time ere he has such another great opportunity of performing the hat trick.”
Mexborough adapted themselves to the weather condition better than Trinity, whose close passing on the heavy turf was not so effective as usual. On the other hand Mexborough swung the ball about continually, and followed up the big lunges of the halves by determined rushes on the home goal.
They upset the home defence altogether when Beevers and Burkinshaw scored the goals which gave Mexborough their 2 —l win. Mexborough were a good all-round hardworking side, and they played the kind of game suitable for the day. Still they had largely to thank Trinity’s missed chances for their win, as three times towards the end of the game Trinity’s failure to draw level was inexcusable. There is talk of a new centre-forward for Trinity. He is needed badly.
Result: Mexborough Town 2 Gainsborough Trinity 1
