Rotherham Town’s Luck at Mexborough.
Mexborough 1 Rotherham Town 2
Rotherham Town wore distinctly lucky to win the odd goal in three at Mexborough. The game was spoiled from a football point of view by a prevailing high wind. The visitors had a big advantage in winning the toss, and were fall value for their 2-1 lead at half-time.
In the second half Rotherham were overplayed, and so frequently were their half-backs compelled to act, on the defensive that the forwards never settled down to serious work. Mexborough should have turned their chances to better account, despite the aid of fortune to Rotherham. Saul was outstanding figure in the visitors’ defence, and as he also scored the winning goal, Rotherham owe a good deal to him.
Mexborough’s spectators did not take kindly to the referee’s decision in disallowing Mexborough a penalty and also claimed that the Town had scored in the last minute
