Stern Struggle at Mexborough.
Mexborough 1 Rotherham County 1
Before the biggest local gate of the present season, 1,500, the town teams of Mexborough end Rotherham fought out hard-earned draw on the former’s ground.
Mexborough gave greatly improved display, and fully deserved to share the spoils, Rotherham failing to produce the form that was for from a team possessing so good a record. It was match notable rather for determination than for pretty play, the home half backs never allowing Rotherham to develop any particular deadliness in their attacks, though the visitors would have done better had they given their right wing more chances of work.
Needham and Harrop were good and Eaton the pick of a strong defence. For Mexborough, Thackeray and Brick, the backs, did well, whilst Morales and Burkinshaw were always shining in the intermediate line. The attack, with Lunn (inside left), Crowcroft (centre}, and Borne (inside right) displacing the usual trio, was far nippier than previous matches, but the “stars” of the line were the outsides, Hibberd and Lowe.
