Mexborough’s First Home Defeat.

A dull game on a dull day at, Hampden Road, where the visitors were York City, brought. Mexborough their first home defeat. They lost and they deserved to lose. Nothing was more disappointing than the failure of the home forwards. They were good enough up to a point, but near goal they failed completely, their marksmanship being woeful.
Hill and Roberts were conspicuous in defence, and held a dangerous left wing well. Harron, the leftwinger, gave Woods the chance to put York ahead after 58 minutes, scoring the only goal of the match.
Chesterfield Reserves 1 Denaby United 2
Chesterfield Reserves, at home, were opposed by a much cleverer side in Denaby United, who largely dominated the game. In the first half Cowan and Bretnall scored for Denaby, and it was not until three minutes from the close that Bailey gave Chesterfield their only goal.
The home forwards, though showing improved attack after the interval, were generally very weak when close up, Bailey having an off day. Their passing was very erratic. Sykes was energetic at outside-left.
Wath Do Well at Millmoor.

A goal each was the outcome of the game between Rotherham County Reserves and Wath Athletic at Millmoor, which just about represents the play.
The visitors missed at least one great chance of obtaining the lead, after which the result appeared in doubt right up to the finish. That the Wath defence was splendid no one can deny, while the work of the forwards was very smart, Holt, the right winger, being the best. On the home side the defence took a long time to settle down. Barnes and Crichton, who formed the right wing, were the pick of the forwards.
Mansfield Town 3 Wombwell 1
Mansfield Town were easily the better side at Field mill and had no difficulty in counting for Wombwell by three goals to none.
Howell, the new centre-forward, played for the first time and created a good impression. He scored a smart goal ten minutes from the start, and Greatorex added a couple, one in each half.
Wombwell put up a steady defence, but for which, the score would, have been heavier.
