Mexboro’ Hippodrome
Byron Repertory Company
Mr. Frank Caffrey
The new resident manager of the Hippodrome has had many years on, behind and in association with the stage, though he began life with legal training and was actually articled to the law. But he came of a theatrical family, and probably the stage was in his blood, as it were.
The name of Caffrey is well known among older members of the old profession. Mr. Caffrey is an Irishman, and was educated at Stoneyhurst. The law did not hold his affections long and soon he was playing in comedy and farce in London. He played several important parts “in town,” including the revival of “The Prisoner of Zenda.” He stage-managed a special production of “The Sowers” which was prepared for Australian and American tours.
Later he was with stock companies for a spell, and for over seven years had a turn in the provinces with the Alfred Denville Company as producer and manager. Returning to Stratford, London, he after a time turned to the cinema. Next, he joined Mr. Terence Byron to take over the resident management of the Mexboro’ Hippodrome. His wide and varied experience will be valued by patrons of the theatre in this area who welcome the reopening of this popular old theatre.
