Mexboro’ Corporal Wounded In Korea
Hit By Shrapnel
Cpl. S. W. Young, son of Mrs. Young and the late Sergt.-Major Young, of the Drill Hall, Mex-borough, was wounded in Korea last week. He sustained shrapnel wounds in the right side, right elbow and left leg.
After serving in the Army Cadet Force for six years CO. Young joined the Army for five years in 1947. He served for two years with the York and Lancaster Regiment in Germany returning in 1949 to Strensall as a small arms instructor.
Cpl. Young volunteered for overseas service but could not be released because of shortage of small arms instructors. However, his second application was successful and he sailed for Hong Kong on his 21st birthday, August 19th.
November 5th found Cpl. Young in Korea attached to the Leicesters, with whom, he was in action when wounded.
