Managing Director of Sopwith & Co. Ltd
Mr. A. E. Taylor, third son of Mr. W alter Taylor, cabinet maker, of High Street, Mex-borough, has been appointed managing director of Sopwith & Co. Ltd., of Newcastle-on-Tyne, one of the biggest furnishing firms in the North of England, and takes up his new duties in the New Year.
Mr. Taylor has been with the firm since 1919, and his promotion has been very rapid. He joined the firm as a salesman and was soon appointed manager. He became a director in 1927.
He is a native of Mexborough, an old boy of the Mexborough Secondary School, and after assisting his father he enlisted in 1915 in the R.A.F. and served for four years in Egypt and Mesopotamia. His father is the oldest tradesman in Mexborough, and has occupied his present premises in High Street for over fifty years.
Under Mr. A. E. Taylor’s management the firm of Sopwith have made great progress. A new factory, electrically fitted, has been built, and the showrooms extended. Mr. Taylor is well known and deservedly popular in the trade over a wide region, and is at present vice-president of the North-East Furnishing Employers’ Federation.
