Manager Retiring

Mr. George W. Whitehead, the local District Manager of the Britannic Assurance Company, is retiring on Sept. 4th, after serving the company for 37 years. In this respect he is the oldest representative in the district, having been in charge of the Mexboro’ area for 31 years.
On several occasions he has been approached to stand as a candidate for the Urban Council but has refused. He has taken a prominent part in the work of the Assurance Officials’ Association, and has been president on two occasions.
He was formerly a tenor vocalist of repute, a member of the Old Orpheus Male Voice Society, and of the Wesleyan choir. His interest in musical festivals led him to invite Mr. G. A. Nixon, the former Parish Church organist and choirmaster, with others, to his house to discuss the formation of the Mexboro’ Music Festival. Mrs. Whitehead has also been interested in various local movements, especially those of the Wesleyan Church. Mr. Whitehead has many friends in the neighbourhood, all of whom wish him a long and happy period of retirement.
