Radio Gift to Montague Hospital
Hospital Officials and Nurses Put The Installation To Prompt Use
It used to be one of the most depressing features of Hospital convalescent that there was no escape to gayer scenes. Now, there is escape: the patient need only affix headphones and he is revelling at the Dorchester Hotel with Jack Jackson, listening to a Wembley cup final commentary, enjoying plays, talks, varieties.
Radio has brought the world to the bedside of the sick, and the latest example is the Mexborough Montague Hospital.
Here, during the last few weeks, has been installed a radio set which is described as “The last word by the radio experts in this country in providing a set which will serve hundreds of headphones.”
And on Wednesday night, in the Board Room, there was a formal presentation ceremony by the Northern director of the ‘News-Chronicle’(Mr WH Armitt), the newspaper’s readers have subscribed many thousands of pounds to equip hospitals throughout the country.
This A tablet in the Board Room was also unveiled. It is inscribed “The wireless installation in this Hospital was provided by the readers of the ‘News-Chronicle’ in conjunction with the Radio Manufacturers Association.”
The Mexborough set is the outcome of the deliberations of a panel of radio experts, and is designed to feed link ups to 124 beds. Thus, every bed in the hospital can be fitted up with wireless facilities.
