A Letter from Bill
Bill Bowes has written this week to Mr. W. P. Turner, chairman, of Mexboro’ Charity Cricket Committee, thanking them for the splendid job of work they did in their organisation of his benefit match at Mexboro’ earlier this year.
The fund has closed at almost £8,100.
Bill writes, “Although I am naturally delighted at such a magnificent figure, I cannot yet appreciate it fully. What I do appreciate is the work that has gone into the raising of such a sum by my cricketing friends . . . Please give them my thanks and say how splendidly they rallied round.”
The Mexboro’ Charity Cricket Committee, which has raised more than £4,000 for Mexboro’ Montagu Hospital, raised £146 during the benefit match. Of this £350 was given to the Bowes benefit fund, £350 to the hospital and ten guineas each to Mexboro’ old folk’s treat and to Wath, Swinton and Mexboro’ nursing associations.
