Vanishing Mexborough
The old Leach cottages at Mexborough

The old Leach cottages at Mexborough, which are the property of the Mexborough Urban District Council, and are about to be demolished having been condemned as unfit for human habitation, although the tenants have for some months clung to them and are loth to leave.
Insert is Mr Bingley Beavers, the oldest of the tenants, who has lived there for 66 years.
The cottages in the foreground were once a public house, variously known as “reach out” and the “Angler’s rest,” for in those days the river Don Paul is close by and the Inn was much frequented by anglers. The licence of the inn was transferred to the Montagu hotel.
