It’s “Fab” in Malta – Says Girl Singer

Girl with the Shirley Bassey sound, Pamela Foster, leaves Mexborough today to spent a year night-club singing in Malta with one regret…she has to leave her tiny Yorkshire terrier “Tivvy” behind her.

Pamela – stage name Deena Mason – recently returned to Mexborough after spending a fortnight singing in Malta’s Caravelle Night club. “It was fabulous” she said, “the people are so friendly that I am really looking forward to going back.”

Although Pamela has sufficient bookings to keep her in Malta for a year she would like to stay there for good.

In August she will visit another sun-kissed isle – Sicily – where she has a week’s booking at an open-air night spot. She was booked after the club owner heard her singing in Malta.

The Reason

Pamela said she would like to have taken “Tivvy”, who is 16 months old and weighs less than two pounds, but because of quarantine restrictions has decided to leave the dog with her mother at her Oliver Street home. “It’s one of my regrets about going” she sighed.

Pamela used to work at a Mexborough clothing factory and it was a workmate who picked her stage name. Her first singing engagement was at Northcliffe W.M.C., Denaby, a far cry from lunching with a Marquis which she did when she was last in Malta.

She has her agent, Eddie Ashley, of Rawmarsh, to thank for her introduction to Malta. It was he who got her the first booking there.

Pamela will shortly be 21 and she will have a beach party to celebrate the event.
