Iron Hague or his Brother?

Who is a young boxer featured in the story a fortnight ago about old photographs from “The Bull”, High Street, Mexborough ?

It is certainly not Iron Hague as it was believed at the hotel and Mr John Brown, 12 Byron Road Mexborough, a cousin of Iron (real name William) Hague has kindly lent as a photograph to show the difference.

Mr Brown said: “I spotted that the photograph was wrong because of the fighting was wearing some. I need always boxing shorts, and he always wore boots, whereas the other boxer is wearing plimsolls.”

Iron Hague fought between 1909 and 1911 and he was then the heavyweight champion of England. Yet two brothers, George and John, and all three were boxers. They also boxed during their days in the Army.

Mr Brown, although not at all certain, said that the photograph of the mystery box could be Iron Hague’s elder brother George, but he would like to know if anyone can say definitely who it is.
