Indecent Assault at Mexboro’.

Ernest Scholey, miner, Mexboro’, was charged at Doncaster on Tuesday with indecently assaulting, on Saturday, June 8, a little girl, aged six years, in a field near Mexboro’

Defendant pleaded not guilty.

The child gave her evidence very intelligently, and two men with whom prisoner had been talking a short time before the offence was committed, said the child was crying. She told them about Scholey’s conduct, and they spoke to him about it, and he denied it.

The Bench convicted prisoner, who gave his version of what took place.

Inspector Taylor said prisoner had been convicted of two previous and similar offences.

The Chairman: You have had three months for this sort of thing. Should not this be a warning?

Prisoner: It was a warning.

What made you repeat it ?—I did not repeat it.

The Chairman: We are of a different opinion.

The Clerk a Are you a married man with family ?—Yes.

The Clerk : You should be ashamed of yourself.

Prisoner was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
