Mexborough are Back On Form

Mexborough Town returned to winning form at Hatfield in Saturday’s Yorkshire League match, gaining ample revenge for last week’s 3-0 home defeat.
Town had an early scare, Ron Warrington going down with ‘flu on the morning of the game, and Terry Hibbert was brought onto the forward line to replace him.
Hatfield, with the unenviable record of not having won a home match all season, fielded the same team which snatched points last Saturday.
With underfoot conditions, Town’s strength and stamina soon began to tell, and they took control of the midfield. It was no surprise when Les Steele, running in from the left, headed home Hibbert’s tenth minute cross to open the Mexborough account.
With Colley and Bower doing sterling work in defence, the home forwards were given little scope, and Cullen was proving a thorn in the side of the home defence. However, when the half-time whistle sounded, the score was 1-1, due to a penalty goal from ex-Town player Allott, who gave Brunt no chance after Sinclair had been brought down in the box.
On the restart the home club were given no chance to get on, top, and it was not long before Terry Glossop netted a second, nodding home a cheeky goal as the ‘keeper was about to collect a cross. After 75 minutes Pat Cullen scored from 25 yards, and a minute later he and Glossop foxed the Hatfield defence for the side-forward to slide in a fourth,
