Grimsby & Cleethorpes Outing

August 1878

Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 23 August 1878

On Saturday morning last, about 500 of the workmen employed at the Denaby Main Colliery, along with their wives and friends left Mexboro’ Station shortly after 6 a.m. for Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

A very pleasant day was spent, some preferring the sands and others the busy fish market and shipping locks, which are of an interesting nature throughout.

The journey home was made at 8 p.m., and the excursionists were safely landed at Mexboro’ a little after the hour of 10, all expressing great delight and satisfaction with their day’s outing.
