Golden Wedding of Mexborough Couple
Two readers of the ‘South Yorkshire Times” practically all their lives, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hargreaves, of 26, Swinton Road, Mexborough, celebrate their Golden Wedding tomorrow (Saturday).
Mr. Hargreaves is 70 and his wife, Elizabeth, is two years his elder. They were married at Sheffield Parish Church, now the Cathedral, on January 25th 1891. They then went to live at West Melton, where Mr. Hargreaves was born, and in 1903 came to Mexborough, where they have lived ever since.
Mrs. Hargreaves is a native of Sheffield. Her husband, before retiring several years ago, was a miner at Wath Main Colliery.
Mrs. Hargreaves is well, known in the Mexborough district as an umbrella maker, but some years ago relinquished this trade. She has kept a drapery business in Mexborough for over 30 years. Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves have one son and one daughter, four grandchildren, and three greatgrandchildren.
One of their grandsons, Pte. Raymond Kennedy, is serving with the York and Lancs. Regiment abroad and receives the “Times” each week.
