Girl with a “Man Size” Job is “Genius for Business”
Girl with “man size” job is Robina Toon, who helps her father, Mr. Sidney Toon, demolition contractor, who is engaged in demolishing houses on the Wath side of the junction of Highwoods Road and Wath Road.
Robina assists the men employed by her father, and is quite capable of taking the slates down, digging lead out of the ground, uncoupling the chains to the vehicles employed in pulling down the walls section. “Robina is quite capable of any man’s job so far as demolition work is concerned” said her father speaking to a “South Yorkshire Times” reporter
Mr. Toon is so certain of his daughter’s skill and ability in performing demolition work that he said he was willing to lay a £100 challenge that Robina was as capable of doing a full day’s work digging lead out of the ground with a pick and shovel as any young man of her age. Mr. Toon, who has a family of five daughters, said he had always wanted a son to take over the family business, but he was quite satisfied by the ability of Robina to take over the job. Robina is very interested in demolition work and according to her father is a “genius” for business.
