Giant Mushroom
Queer Find in Mexborough Field

While at work in Doncaster Roa I, Mexborough, between the Miners’ Arms and the Mexborough and Swinton Traction Co.’s depot, Mr. James Nicholls, a street sweeper, of 17, Foundry Lane, Mexborough, saw what appeared to be a sheet of paper a short distance inside the field.

Making a closer investigation, he found that it was the giant mushroom, a photograph of which we reproduce.

The mushroom weighed 11b. 2oz., and its measurements are 91in. in diameter, and 2ft. 3in. in circumference.

This is probably the largest mushroom ever discovered in the district, and would have provided an appetising breakfast for a family, though Mr. Nicholls told us he was not going to risk eating it.
