German Bride for Mexborough Ex-Serviceman
A romance that started in Germany 18 months ago when a young Mexborough soldier, Mr Sydney Wilson homes (home), eldest son of Mr and Mrs J.W.homes of “Flinders,” Church Street, Mexborough met a German girl, culminated their marriage at Mexborough Parish Church on Saturday

The girl is 22-years-old Frautein Herta Hilda Kathe Keller, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Keller, of Hanover.
Mr. Holmes joined the Army in February, 1946, and went to Germany in November that year. While in Hanover, he met Fraulein Keller, and a month after his demobilisation, she followed him to England. At present on demobilisation leave, he arrived home about 10 weeks ago, and his bride came to England six weeks ago. She is very happy in England and does not want to return to Germany. When she left Hanover to come to England it was the first occasion on which she had been so far away from her parents.
The service at Mexborough Parish Church on Saturday, was conducted by the Vicar of Elsecar, the Rev. W. H. de Voil, and was conducted both in German and English.
The bride was given away by Coun. J. A. Booth (Conisbrough), the bridegroom’s uncle, and wore a pale blue two-piece with wine-Coloured accessories. She carried deep cream roses and was attended by Mrs. J. Sturday, in a grey Pinstripe costume with accessories to match. The attendant carried pink carnations and fern Mr. George Holmes was best man, and Mr. M Bryars groomsman.
The bridegroom was formerly employed at Crompton Parkinson Limited Doncaster, where he hopes to return on completion of his league.
The top tier of the wedding cake has been sent to the bride’s parents in Hanover, who were, unfortunately, unable to be present
