Funds Embezzled.
Mexborough Miner’s Lapse
Thomas Hemmingway. a miner, pleaded “Guilty” at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court, yesterday, to embezzling the sum of £9 11s. 11d. received by him as secretary and treasurer of the Fishing Club connected with the British Legion Club.
The president of the club, Mr. James Leadbeater, said if prisoner had promised to pay back the money, the proceedings would not have been instituted.
Hemmingway expressed regret, and said would not offend again. He said had lost the money somewhere, but did not know where
The Chairman told him that his character had saved him from prison. He would have to pay a fine of £15, £9 11s. of which would refunded to the club. He was ordered pay the amount at the rate of 30s per week
