Former Chorister has Choral Wedding at Mexborough

Assistant Inspector of the Liverpool Royal Liver Friendly Society for Stockton anti the North-East, and a former agent at Mexborough, Mr. Ronald William Lewis, only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Lewis, of “Linden House,” Alexandra Road, Mexborough, was married on Saturday at Mexborough Parish Church to Miss Marjorie Sapsford, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Sapsford. of 108, Doncaster Road, Mexborough.

The Vicar, the Rev. A. J. Bishop, officiated at the fully choral service, and the hymns “Love Divine,” “The Lord’s My Shepherd” and “Praise My Soul’ were sung, the soloist being Master P. Sapsford. Organist was Mr, L. Fletcher.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a crinoline style gown of oyster satin with draped neckline and tulle skirt over taffeta. Her veil was held in place by a wreath of orange blossom and pearls, and she carried red carnations.

Chief bridesmaid was Miss Olive Sapsford, in white silk embroidered net over taffeta with feathered headdress. Miss Ann Sapsford was in white net over taffeta, with white net and red velvet headdress. Each carried a red velvet muff and wore white carnations. The bridegroom’s gifts to the bridesmaids were handbags. The bride’s mother wore a dove grey coat and toning accessories, and the bridegroom’s mother a donkey brown coat and n—-r brown accessories.

The best man was Mr. Fred O. Fisher, and the groomsman was Mr. Frederick Sapsford.

A reception was held at Mexboro’ Parish Church Hall, and the couple later left for London, where the honeymoon is being spent. The bride travelled in a dove grey gaberdine coat over a cherry red suit, with black accessories.

The bridegroom, who was a member of St. George’s Church choir for 14 years, received gifts from colleagues at the Mexborough, London, Barrow-in-Furness and Harrogate staffs of the Friendly Society. The bride was formerly employed in the wages department of the National Coal Board

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis will take up residence at Stockton-on-Tees after their honeymoon in London.
