Foot Race at the Barnsley Queen’s Grounds
On Saturday a race of 100 yards for £10 took place between Henry Rose, of Denaby, and R. Greenwood, of Mexbro’, Rose receiving three yards start.
Betting ruled at 22s, to £1 on Greenwood.
Both men were fairly despatched. Rose led for about half distance, but Greenwood, who had the race in hand, went to the front and won by a yard.
Mr. Geo. Bradley acted as referee, Mr. J. Harton as starter, and Mr. James Nixon as stukeholder.
