Barnsley Chronicle – Saturday 09 February 1884
Floods at Mexbro’.
On Saturday there were again many acres of land around Mexbro’ flooded by the overflow of the river, and although floods are not of rare occurrence in this neighbourhood, it is a long time since the water rose so high.
At Denaby the Don had encroached upon the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincolnshire Railway in one or two places, and the highway near Grey’s Bridge was several feet submerged.
There was a very large volume out in the Pastures and also at Conisbro’. At Bolton the brook had become so swollen as to cover many acres.
