Fatal Hesitation
Boy’s Death in ‘Bus Accident at Mexborough
“It seems that if the boy had gone on another six inches the ’bus would have missed him. The few seconds’ hesitation seems to have caused his death.’’
So commented the Doncaster District Coroner (Mr. W. H. Carlile) at an inquest at Denaby to-day on Tommy Edwards (6), son of John Thomas Edwards, miner. Victoria Road, Roman Terrace, Mexborough, who was fatally injured when knocked down by a ’bus in Wath Road, Mexborough.
It was stated that the boy ran across the road without apparently seeing the ’bus. When about level with the ’bus he hesitated, then ran on again.
The Coroner said that the ‘bus driver, Thomas William Kirkby, Earlsmere Avenue, Doncaster, seemed to have done everything in his power to avoid the boy.
