Eric Brook In Light Training
Quick Recovery from Peritonitis
A month ago Eric Brook, the Manchester City footballer and member of Mexborough’s Yorkshire Council cricket team, was ill with peritonitis. Yesterday he sprinted round the playing area of Manchester City’s ground.
He left the nursing home, to which he was rushed on the morning of Manchester City’s home match with Grimsby Town on November 27 for an immediate operation for appendicitis, a fortnight ago, and he spent Christmas with his parents in South Yorkshire.
Brook, who is 30, resumed light training yesterday and expects to be able to play football before the end of January. Such a quick recovery is unprecedented even for an athlete and Brook says that his progress has astonished the specialist who conducted the operation.
Before Brook, who is England’s International outside left, became ill he had not missed a first team game since Barnsley gave him his big chance 12 years ago.
