Elocution Success.
Miss Constance Nicholls, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Nicholls, of Hallgate, Mex-borough, a well-known local elocutionist, received intimation on Tuesday that she had gained the coveted distinction of L.R.A.M (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music) in elocution. This success, achieved at the early age of 24, represents a notable achievement.
Miss Nicholls, in 1937, secured the qualification of L.G.S.M (Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music) with honours and the award of a gold medal in recognition of her performance in securing the highest marks in the examination in that year.
At the age of 14 Miss Nicholls had already displayed an inherent talent which she developed during five years’ membership of the Mexborough Green Room Club. Subsequently she pursued her training in elocution at Sheffield, where she became a member of the Sheffield Playgoers’ Society, in whose productions she has taken several important parts. Miss Nicholls has given personal dramatic recitals both in the Mexborough and Sheffield districts and recently formed from among her students a dramatic group known as the Constance Nicholls Players, who have already this season raised £20 for charity.
Miss Nicholls has also discharged the duties of adjudicator from time to time and recently acted in this capacity at a public speaking contest at Doncaster. She is a former pupil of the Doncaster Road School.
