Distinguished Musician Killed by Fall of Coal

The death occurred in tragic circumstances at the Manvers Main Colliery on Tuesday, April 27 of Mr Bernard Deakin (23), second son of Mr and Mrs H Deakin, 18, Herbert Street, Mexborough.

Deakin was killed by a fall of coal from the face while working as a trammer at Manvers Main number one Colliery.

Mr Deakin was a distinguished musician, chiefly playing the violin, and he was librarian of the Barnburgh Main Orchestra.
