Death of Assurance Company Manager

April 1927

Mexborough and Swinton Times April 1, 1927

We regret to record the death, which occurred on Thursday Mr George James Thacker, Osborne house, Doncaster Road, Mexborough in his 53rd year, from bronchitis, after a long illness.

He had been in the service of the Pearl Assurance Company for 24 years and had been a resident in the town for 30 years.

For the past 18 years he had held the position of district manager for the company.

He was born Attercliffe, Sheffield, came to Mexborough through Shropshire. He was kindly and sociable and had many friends in the town and district, to whom the news of his death will come as a great shock.

He was particularly interested in the Mexborough Athletic club and the old Cricket Club. The last two years he has been chairman of the section dealing with his favourite game (bowls), a member of the Management Committee and the Canteen Committee of the club.

He leaves a widow and three daughters.
