Bottom Hits 72 For Mexbro’ At Darfield

A Notable six for 42 by Mexborough’s G. Palmer meant disaster for Barfield in a Yorkshire Council match at Barfield. Barfield were dismissed for 74 after Mexborough had scored 150.

Mexborough’s  batting tally was contributed to mainly by two players — F. Bottom (72) and J. Curtis (30), while the other batsmen were taken good care of by David Rodgers (four for 34) and Dennis Batty (three for 21). For DarfieId Ken Kitching scored and David Rodgers carried his bat for 19.

The game was played in beautiful weather, though a dark cloud shortly before seven o’clock necessitated play being held up for a quarter of an hour owing to bad light.
