Bout With 0′ Kelly On Monday
Into The Top Three?

On Monday Harry Crossley, the Mexborough heavyweight, made an impressive first appearance in the ring of the National Sporting Club, and on Monday next he will fight a 15 three minute round bout with O’Kelly the third of the top three in their class in the country.

Crossley had to meet a “south-paw” man in Jim Shaw of Erith, but fortunately had seen his opponent at work before and was ready for his method.

Crossley adapted himself so cleverly, that he punched his man all over the ring and but for Shaw’s great power of taking punishment the bout would have ended in a knock-out.

The bout was, restricted to six rounds, and from the first it was a hard-hitting affair; with Crossley doing the hitting. Again and again Shaw took Crossley’s right plumb in the face, and though he stuck to it Shaw was well beaten. Crossley was never extended. He tremendously impressed the critics, who began to see something in Mr. Bridgewater’s belief that he is England’s future champion.

And on Monday Crossley’s aspirations will be put to the test. After Phil Scot and Jack Stanley, Con O’Kelly is the best heavyweight available, and success on Monday would take Crossley into the first three. O’Kelly also was at the N.S.O. on Monday night and did very well in his 15-round bout with the Dutchman, Van de Veer, whom he beat on points. O’Kelly is the son of the former wrestling policeman of lull.

For the bout’ at Hull on Monday, the L.N.E.R. are offering special facilities. People wishing to see the fight may travel by the train leaving Mexborough at 4.08 for 6shilling (30p) return. The return train will leave Hull at 10-50.

Crossley is in perfect condition and awaits the bout with confidence.
