Councillor Levi Jones.
Mr. Levi Israel. Jones, of 38, Addison Road, Mexborough has served on the Mexborough Council for 16 years. He is a native of Ashbourne, coming to this district about 40 years ago, when he commenced work as a miner at Manvers Main.
He resided for two years at Swinton, eight in Wath, and for the last 20 years in Mexborough. He has always been interested in public work, and was chairman of Mexborough Council in 1921.
In the 1927 election he headed the poll with 1392 votes., The highest number any individual has received in Mexborough
For many years, he was a lay preacher in the Hoyland circuit of the Primitive Methodist Connexion and is now a regular attender at the Primitive Methodist Church. He is a member of the Manchester Order of Oddfellows; a member of the Old-Age Pensions Committee; the Mexborough Employment Committee; and is keenly interested in the Mexborough Old Folks Treat Fund. He is chairman of the ‘Markets Committee, a past chairman of the Burials Committee, and has been a member of the Mexborough Education Sub-committee, the eon Conisbrough Isolation hospital Board, and t lie Doncaster Board of Guardians. He is also a member of the Mexborough labour party.
