Comforts Fund

At last night’s meeting of Mexborough Active Services Comforts Fund, Coun. S. Silverwood presiding, the secretary (Coun. A. C. Rawson) reported that since the fund’s inception over £2,000 had been raised. The total standing to the fund’s credit was £545, the highest ever.

Against this, the number of men and women joining the Forces was increasing, and it would be a big problem to cater for them. It was agreed that 7s. 6d. should be sent to each serving man and woman at Christmas.

There are now about 1,500 names on the roll. On the suggestion of the secretary, it was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mrs. Fowler for her generosity in placing her grounds free of charge at the disposal of the committee for galas and for the work she had done herself.
